Königsball
|
After our fall Königsschießen (see below), this is the dinner dance that we hold to honor the new König/Königin. This is a formal dance and ceremony. Club uniforms required. Current König is pictured left and our last one is to the right.

Monatliche Versammlungen & Schießen - Monthly Gatherings & Shooting
We meet pretty much monthly for a business meeting (with refreshments). A meeting is always on the 2nd Thursday of the month and may have shooting along with it. Shooting is definitely done on the 4th Thursday of the month. You can shoot for overall points (high score in the club also known as Bestmann Orden) or for Uniform points (to acquire uniform decorations). All shooting is done with air rifle or air pistol.
Verschiedene Reisen - Various Trips
We travel to different cities (usually Peoria, IL; Chicago, IL; and Cincinnati, OH, but there are occasionally other cities) to participate in other club shoots and to try to win the wandering trophy. If you are representing the club at one of these shoots, the dinner/dance is a formal event and your club uniform is required. Shooting during the day is with air rifle and air pistol.
Einführung der Amtsträger - New Officer's Ceremony & Dinner
Generally a traditional German dinner, if possible at a German restaurant, is held in conjunction with our ceremony of our new officers taking over their positions. Club Uniform is required for members.
Arbeit im Schützenwald - Work on the Shooting Range
Wear work clothes. Get bug spray and bring weed-eaters, etc to make the area presentable for our summer picnic and informal shoot.
Weihnachtzeit Abendessen
The Club gets together, usually at a German restaurant, to have a Christmas celebration and dinner. With the recent loss of two area German restaurants (and now one good Donau-Schwaben restaurant, this is getting tough to do! No dress code other than usually business casual.

COMPETITIONS
4th Thursday Competitions
On the 4th Thursday of the month (except Nov-Dec), we meet and practice or shoot to get more decorations for our uniforms (this is a competition with one's self to better one's shooting skills); and, Bestmann, where you compete with all others for a total overall year score. Bestmann shooting to improve the club overall has teams set up (as of 2023) and the winning team will get some type of award.
Father's Day Picnic at the Schützenwald
Besides the self-explanatory picnic, we have two events that day.
Damenschießen (Women's Shoot): LIterally Women's Shoot, but since we accept women and men in the main club, this is really a spouses' shoot. All partners who are not members are invited to join in the fun with the top 3 receiving awards. This event is generally held on the Father's Day Picnic, but can be held at other times.
High Caliber Pistol Competition: Centerfire only. .25 caliber and above are centerfire rounds (but if you bring a .25 caliber you will be laughed at). Due to some time limits that may occur, shooting a revolver may also be laughed at. Rules are posted on the ABOUT page.

Scheibeschiessen
Shooting at a Scheibe (plate with a picture on it) and aiming at a specific point on the picture. Picture of say a piano and shooting at the last black key on the left . Each member shoots one time with the weapon and following the rules created by the person who designed the Scheibe. Whatever the picture, this is a fun shoot and has nothing to do with any club scoring. Can be held any time of year at any shoot.
Königsfrühstück - King's Breakfast

Our Formal Annual Breakfast (sometimes including lunch and dinner as well). The König/Königin is responsible for putting on an event to thank the club for the position of being König/Königin. In Germany, this is often known as a Schützenfest and is often held from house to house and involves a lot of beer and schnapps.

Hubertusfeier und Tanz - St Hurbertus Celebration & Dance
In the morning we hold a competition air rifle/pistol shoot with the other clubs that are attending. During this time, breakfast is served. After the event, we retire to our houses for a while then return in the evening for the celebration in honor of St. Hubertus and our dance. Traditional German food is served. Awards for the day's shoot are presented. In the evening, the dance is formal so the club uniform is required.

Pokalschießen - Trophy Shoot

After our November business meeting, we gather to shoot for the club trophy. This is using one common air rifle, shooting from a bench rest position. To get an overall winner is tougher than you think.
